I just read Dave Hunt and T.A. McMahon that you mentioned in your article. I agree with their assessment of the unbiblical approach that psychology has toward troubled people and our values. Do you have any other recommendations for Christian critiques of psychology?
Yes, psychology is the source of so much evil in the world. When you pointed out that it is about questioning everything and indulging oneself, I immediately thought of Satan tempting Eve in the Garden. “Did God actually say ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden?” (Gen 3:1). Over and over again psychology tries to tempt people who are struggling. It makes even worse monsters out of people with some of the most sinful and prideful people I know from past churches being “victims of trauma.” No, they’re sinners just like you and I. They need to repent!
Crazy Like Us, by Ethan Watters is excellent. I am not sure of his faith.
Per Faxneld, not a Christian, shows the Satanic origins of psychology in his book Satanic Feminism. Though for him this is a plus.
Freud admits in Dream Psychology 101, thay psychology traces directly back to the Chaldeans (Magicians of Babylon). Right at the start.
The movie Freud's Last Session actually highlights this as well.
I've collected little bits of data across the years from various sources. Generally secular sources are more willing to challenge it, as Christians idolise being accepted intellectually by the world.
Thank you for these recommendations. The Bible itself testifies over and over against psychology and embracing this world’s “wisdom” as it is ruled by the prince of the air. I’ve read some secular exposes and will pursue these that you mention.
In a YouTube video that included Dave Hunt, they mentioned Martin and Deidre Bobgan who appear to be Christians with very thorough works against psychology (https://a.co/d/dAuDYjN). I’m eager to read how we can use the Bible to guard against this deceitful ideology that now borders on an actual religion with its insistence on man’s nature and proper behavior.
