I've got several of Jung's books and lots of other books on psychology and metaphysics. While all that stuff is quite intriguing and making sense in a way, it also manipulates your mind into thinking about other human beings in a specific manner. F.e. CG Jung's "Archetypes" is a good mechanism to analyze people's behavior in a certain context, ultimately it is just another form of Astrology, though. You'll end up seeing people as Cancer Ascendants / "Caregivers" with Pisces Suns / "Innocents". It's pure nonsense, and you'll become somewhat of a social retard if you let this "knowledge" sink in too much (speaking from experience).

I came to find the Bible to be the best source on human psychology. It is basically the "user manual" to this existence God gifted us with. Merely talking about a problem with someone else opens up a whole new world of understanding and solutions. That isn't Jung's "collective unconscious" talking to you, it is the Holy Spirit doing his works.

One year ago I talked to a man who refused to believe in God. I asked him for his reasons, and he began reflecting on some incidents that ultimately resulted in a horrible accident in which he almost died as a young man. He obviously blamed God for that, but I responded "So, don't you see that God loves you? Why do you think He gave you a second chance? Why would He go on to give you that wife and those two daughters you love so much?" He paused for a while, then looked into my eyes and said "Thank you." I couldn't resist to describe to him how the Holy Spirit sometimes uses people to deliver a certain message, and that I thought that that was the case here, and that he should thank God for our interaction.

Anyway, we had a nice conversation afterwards, but the sudden appearance of light in that man's eyes was unforgettable. I wouldn't know of any means derived from Psychology to light up a man like that.

I’m a qualified if somewhat inexperienced Christian counselor among many other things and the more I studied psychobabble the more I disagreed with it. By contrast, the more I studied the Bible, the more I agreed with it. Try reading and rereading that! I echo Pastor Matt’s sentiments here entirely. The real problem is sin / rebellion against God and our unwillingness to repent from it. Understanding your trauma from your parents is merely excusing yourself from responsibility for your own poor choices and reactions. Develop Godly friendships and mentors. Save a fortune in not encouraging psychbabble… keep them out of work and make the effort to develop two way friendship connections and communications.
